T1 in Materials Technology

Construction of toys in Materials Technology

Most students have completed their working drawings in Materials Technology by now. The drawings are designed to communicate all the information needed to make a toy using precise diagrams, labeling and notes where necessary.
All students took part in skills lessons at the beginning of the term to become familiar with the machinery in the Hard Materials room and to learn some basic electronic theory and how to solder as well. These skills should enable each student to construct their toy.
Our learning intention is to "construct a toy to a high quality standard using safe skills and techniques". We are hoping to see our students taking care with their projects so their toys are well made and they are proud of the workmanship.

J5 Doughnuts

Aria, Alyssa and Aleen are making soft toy doughnuts. They have designed the shape themselves and are busy cutting out the fabric at the moment. They will be doing handsewing (yay!!) and also learning to use the sewing machine so they can complete their projects.

J5 students are well underway with their projects in the hard materials room. They are sanding, sawing, gluing and using the scroll saw like professionals!
