Construction of toys in Materials Technology
Most students have completed their working drawings in Materials Technology by now. The drawings are designed to communicate all the information needed to make a toy using precise diagrams, labeling and notes where necessary.
All students took part in skills lessons at the beginning of the term to become familiar with the machinery in the Hard Materials room and to learn some basic electronic theory and how to solder as well. These skills should enable each student to construct their toy.
Our learning intention is to "construct a toy to a high quality standard using safe skills and techniques". We are hoping to see our students taking care with their projects so their toys are well made and they are proud of the workmanship.

Welcome to 2012
What a great start to the year!
The students have just spent their first 2 weeks in Materials Technology learning how to use the tools and equipment. They also used the Tronix kits to familiarise themselves with simple circuits and components.
From now on the students will be working on their inquiry learning projects. We have posed the following question
They have worked collaboratively to explore the meaning of the question.
The objective for the next 2 terms is to create a kinesthetic toy which will appeal to children in 2030 based on their research.

From now on the students will be working on their inquiry learning projects. We have posed the following question
In 2030 will kinesthetic toys still appeal to children?
